International students

Department 1, Physics and Electrical Engineering, is a truly global institution with a strong commitment to providing an international learning experience for all students. We have a long history of welcoming international students and there are now over 300 students from outside Germany representing more than 50 countries. The biggest communities are from China (26%), from Cameroon (12%), Pakistan (6%), Iran (6%) and India (5%).

The Postgraduate Programme of Environmental Physics (PEP) was the first international master course of Dept.1, soon followed by two other international master courses in the field of Electrical Engineering (CIT - Communication and Information Technology; IAE - Information and Automation Engineering). In 2002, the Physics International Postgraduate Program (PIP) for phd-candidates was established which turned out to be quite successful. Today PIP comprises several programs which offer different grades to the students of both Physics and Electrical Engineering.

We could help you finding a suitable exchange program or scholarship program for you.

Many professors and lecturers have contacts with universities abroad and can give you advices. Students with study experiences abroad can directly report on their experiences.

As soon as you know to which college you want to go, first step is to write to the International Office of the university you chose. The International Offices are able to give you all necessary information about licensing, appointments, search for accommodation or contacts at the university.

The embassies (cultural departments) of the host country give information about conditions of entry and stay regulations.

In the cultural institutes you can find a lot of literature and help concerning the questions about a study abroad (Goethe-Institute, Insitut franc A sharp, Instituto Cervantes).
